The Railway & Locomotive Historical Society

For 98 years, the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society is the largest organization dedicated to railroad history in North America.

We encourage everyone interested in railroad history to become a member of the national organization of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society. Members receive Railroad History, a magazine that contains articles, beautiful photos, and historic information. Members also receive the R&LHS Quarterly Newsletter that contains current research and information on railroad history. Another benefit is access to the R&LHS JSTOR digital archive. This archive allows members to perform their own research on information written by the organization going back to 1921.

Golden Spike Chapter

The Golden Spike Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society is one of many chapters around the United States. Formed in 1991, The Golden Spike Chapter meets at the Ogden Union Station each Saturday. One of our major projects is the restoration of D&RGW 223. We also work closely with the Ogden Union Station on special projects, ensuring that historical pieces in the Eccles Rail Center are protected and secured, and giving public tours of the restoration shop in the Trainmen’s Building.
